Most learners need approximately 45 hours of professional lessons plus about 22 hours of private supervised practice before reaching test-ready standard.

You do not need your provisional license to BOOK your first lesson, but you MUST provide your license information to DO your first lesson.

In the UK, since 4 June 2018, learner drivers can drive on motorways only if:

• You’re accompanied by an approved driving instructor (ADI) — not just any fully licensed driver.
  
  – You’re in a car fitted with dual controls — so the instructor can take over if needed.
  
  – You’re in a car (not a motorbike) — learner motorcyclists are not allowed on motorways.
